This is a nice town to enjoy small town living, with easy access to big city amenities. The countryside surrounding Plant City is all farmlands, pasturelands, citrus groves and strawberry fields. It is in this rich, fertile soil, where the majority of all the winter strawberries in the U.S. are grown. The mild, subtropical climate of Plant City is perfect for growing the sweet berries, as well as other crops of all kinds. Most of the farms surrounding Plant City were developed during the 1890s, and as more highways and railroads came into the area, improving shipment, Plant City soon became known as the "Winter Strawberry Capital of the World." One of the towns annual highlights is the eleven-day Florida Strawberry Festival, a tradition for over 69 years and ranked 24th by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions. Young and old alike come to enjoy the best strawberry shortcake on earth; a variety of entertainment, rides and exhibits including agriculture, commerce, education, industry, livestock, fine arts, and horticulture.
Other Plant City attractions include Dinosaur World, Bike Fest, the Martin Luther King Jr. Cultural Arts Festival in January and every 3rd Saturday of each month, the city sponsors a Classic Car Show with displays throughout the town.
